When should I replace my surge protector?

  Surge protectors are an important safeguard for our electrical facilities and electronic equipment. They protect our power system equipment and indoor appliances alike from voltage spikes that could otherwise cause significant damage or loss. However, like all devices, surge protectors have a lifespan and will eventually need to be replaced. But when is the right time?

 

  Generally, when the surge protector shows signs of deterioration, you can consider replacing the surge protector: over time, during long-term operation, the performance of the surge protector degrades and loses the ability to protect equipment from surges. Here are some signs that your surge protector may have reached the end of its life:

 

Indicator Lights: Many surge protectors are equipped with LED indicators to indicate their protection status. If this light goes out, it may mean that the protective component is no longer functioning.

 

 

Physical indicator window: Most surge protectors use a physical indicator window to indicate their protection status. If the window displays green, the surge protector is working normally; if the window displays red, it means that the module in the surge protector has failed and needs to be replaced.

 

 

Physical damage: Visible damage, such as frayed wires or damaged outlets, is a telltale sign that it's time to replace your surge protector.

Age: If your surge protector is more than three years old, consider replacing it. If it is regularly exposed to minor voltage fluctuations, its internal component performance may degrade, reducing its efficacy.
